Episode 11: 5 ways to ENCOURAGE your husband

If you have been married more than 5 minutes and have not criticized your husband OR questioned his plans (either out loud OR in your head), then you deserve a trophy!

Maybe you don’t think of yourself as a critical wife because you don’t openly tell your husband that everything he is doing and saying is wrong. Or, maybe you are guilty and don’t see any reason to deny it.

Either way, let’s talk about why you need to break it along with specific actions you can take to live out Hebrews 10:24-25 in your marriage and stir up your husband to love and good works and encourage him all the more as you see the Day drawing near.

And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.

Hebrews 10:24-25 English Standard Version

Big Picture Take Away

It is important to remember that you cannot change your husband, but you can influence him with your words & actions. You should not manipulate your husband, but you should want him to be all that God has called him to be in your marriage. As a wife, the relationship God calls you to focus on above all else (except your relationship with Jesus, of course) is the one with your husband.

So how do you do that?

By considering that HIS faults just may be God’s tool to convict YOU, change YOU, and mold YOU. HIS faults point out YOUR weaknesses. You can’t change your husband, but you can encourage him and ask God to change YOU!

Practical Application

The 5 ways to encourage your husand are:

  • Stop whining – STOP complaining about what life is like being his wife.
  • Be thankful – Even if he falls short in 100 different ways, acknowledge the ways is it getting it right (even if it is only 1 way) and verbally say, “Thank you!”
  • Be his cheerleader in public – Make it a habit of talking him UP, rather than tearing him down to others.
  • Be his cheerleader at home – Create a home and be a wife that he WANTS to come back to at the end of the day.
  • Pray for him – get this list of Ways to pray for your husband and use it daily to pray for him.
