In today’s episode, we meet Leah, She was a young woman who didn’t want anything that we all don’t want – attention, affection, maybe even adoration. Leah kept seeking these things from her husband, Jacob, but they never came.
There was someone who saw her though. Someone who paid her attention had affection for her and adored her as His own.

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.Romans 8:35-36, 38-39 English Standard Version
When the Lord saw that Leah was hated, he opened her womb, but Rachel was barren. And Leah conceived and bore a son, and she called his name Reuben, for she said, “Because the Lord has looked upon my affliction; for now my husband will love me. She conceived again and bore a son, and said, “Because the Lord has heard that I am hated, he has given me this son also.” And she called his name Simeon. Again she conceived and bore a son, and said, “Now this time my husband will be attached to me because I have borne him three sons.” Therefore his name was called Levi. And she conceived again and bore a son, and said, “This time I will praise the Lord.” Therefore she called his name Judah. Then she ceased bearing children.Genesis 29:31-32 New International Version
Big Picture Take Away
With each son she had, Leah held out hope that it would turn Jacob’s love in her direction, but it did not. It was after bearing her forth that she finally quit focusing on gaining the devotion of her husband for a moment and began to praise the Lord for sustaining her through a loveless marriage.
Leah’s life was never an easy one. Even while having 2 more sons and a daughter, she was in constant competition with Rachel for Jacob’s love. She never won though. But God helped her endure. He developed her character and she continued to have hope. Most of all, He gave her His love that she didn’t have to earn because His love wasn’t based on her outward appearance or anything she could do to earn it. He loved her, not for who she was, but whose she was and she was His.
Friend, this is the same truth you and I can take great comfort in today. Whether you are experiencing a loveless marriage, a neglectful parent, rejection from your peer group – you are still loved by God and there is nothing you can do to mess that up or lose that status.
